Admission

All Applicants must complete the following criteria before being officially admitted.

1) Must be a high school graduate or hold a GED certificate showing a high school equivalency. The student must document this by providing a diploma or GED test scores.

2) Must be at least 18 years of age by the time the training course is completed in order to qualify for licensing examination by the state of Indiana or Illinois.

3) Must complete Application for Enrollment form and beginning 2005 pay a $50 non-refundable application fee. (Download a PDF of this Form)

4) Must have a personal interview with a member of the staff

5) Must take an Entrance Exam, the results of which are considered in the admissions decision.

6) Must be accepted for admission by the Admissions Committee of the Academy.

7) Must have made the required financial deposit on or before the first day of class.


Curriculum

Our Academy is in session five (5) days a week, Tuesday through Saturday. The 10-Month Course schedule is Tuesdays and Saturdays, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm and Wednesday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Our 13-Month Course schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. The 10-Month scheduled students are given 60 minutes for lunch, the 13-Month scheduled students 30 minutes. Based on the above scheduled hours attended each week, this course is considered a full-time schedule. Since this training program is based on the completion of 1,500 clock hours, only those hours of the student's actual class or clinic participation will be counted toward the completion of the 1,500 hours.

Hair Styling – 280 hours
Hair Cutting– 250 hours
Hair Coloring – 100 hours
Facials / Makeup – 55 hours
Manicuring / Pedicuring – 45 hours
Sanitation – 40 hours
Shampooing – 35 hours
Scalp Treatments – 35 hours

Hair Removal – 15 hours
Chemistry – 10 hours
Hair & Skin Composition – 10 hours
Law – 10 hours
Management – 10 hours
Salesmanship – 10 hours
Anatomy and Physiology – 5 hours
Electricity – 5 hours
Discretionary Hours – 215 hours

TOTAL – 1,500 hours

The Basic Division will be spent learning the technical skills of shampooing, permanent waving, hair cutting, scalp treatments, facial treatments, pin curling, fingerwaving, thermal waving, manicuring, pedicuring, hair coloring and bacteriology. All the procedures learned and practiced during the Basic Division will be done on mannequins or other students in the class.

After the Basic Division, students will move through three more divisions of training: Sophomore, Junior and Senior with each one becoming more advanced as skill levels progress. In each of the three latter divisions, when not in class, students' time will be spent in practicing practical areas of instruction on mannequins and guests patronizing our Academy for services.
